MAJOR & MINOR CHORDS (Conventional Shapes)

This section shows the standard major and minor chord shapes commonly used on guitar. These are the conventional shapes most players learn first and can easily recognize.

Most of these shapes include open strings, which means they are tied to specific positions on the neck and can’t always be moved as-is. However, some shapes are movable, and all of them are built from the same interval relationships.

By understanding the shape and its intervals, you can use a capo to change key while keeping the same fingering, recognize how these shapes connect to movable and barre chords, and apply the same chord ideas in different positions and musical contexts.
